Even today, lighting design is sometimes still considered non-essential, secondary, often left on the sidelines of the architectural project, and when there is one, not always with a guarantee of acceptable results. It is too often undertaken subsequently at a final stage of architectural projects, or amalgamated within a structure as a somewhat superficial and ultimate element « as a cherry on a cake » so to speak. And therefore, oftentimes, the site is « illuminated », but the lighting alas not necessarily “designed”. There is no excuse for that. Lighting must be designed as a factor that contributes most to the success of a project, It must be carefully planned and studied at a very early stage. It should be treated with the same expertise and professionalism as any other phase of the project.
That being said, drawing up a lighting design project cannot alone guarantee the quality of the result: qualifying a project is indeed very difficult. The lighting design being also a conceptual performance, it is not sufficient to define a qualitative value of light itself and in accordance with the fixtures used, but rather a series of stages that lead to an efficient and desired result. At the end of the line, it is the insight and seriousness of the designers that will determine the diversity and uniqueness of the project, but above all the grounds required for its quality. It happens too often that engineers and designers, once defined their own “style”, repeatedly apply it to most situations and cases ; or worse, leave the computer to define the right solution. The success and richness of a good project begins with an open mind but also with a technical background knowledge of the technology and fixtures ; away from pre-packaged solutions, and dealt with renewed curiosity and critical spirit.
The new technology of high-power LEDs which I most value, is a revolution in lighting and a challenge for those who are struggling and combining it with traditional lighting obtaining disastrous results. The approach to designing lighting is changing and we have to accept it. It becomes necessary to go along with continuous research and experience involving constant adaptability. liki liki LED lighting design studio has been using exclusively LEDs, and that since 2006. The reason for promoting Solid State lighting is because we have the knowledge of their traceability and their genesis. We also know that lighting electronics is a fast paced technology which applications go far beyond «branded fixtures»,switches and wires.
That is why we can offer LED solutions designed in the interest of the client while maintaining a close cooperation with all actors involved in the project. Our approach enables superior results to those provided « free of charge » by manufacturers and retailers of lighting fixtures tending to overshadow the lighting design project itself. We like to control costs in a transparent manner.
« Lighting » as set for a project is not made from the usual light fixtures and lamps and only for their design or “fame” of their designers, but should be a lighting where the essence is the light itself and its quality, just like natural light. The right lighting should be there but not necessarily visible through fixtures.
